INDORE, Nov 13, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque vowed of not letting captaincy to affect his performance, stating that the onus is an opportunity which he wants to utilize with good effect.

Considered as Test specialist, Mominul got the captaincy after Shakib Al Hasan was banned from the cricket for two years by ICC due to his failure to report corrupt approaches.

The captaincy duty may come early than his expectation but Mominul said he is not feeling any pressure as of now.

”Since I have received the captaincy duty, I am not feeling pressure. The way I batted before captaincy, I will bat in the same way after being captain,” Mominul said.

“I always try to think about the positive aspects. There are few positives in captaincy as well as your knowledge about the game will be increase or you will be more responsible as a player etc. So I think it will help to improve my performance or batting,” he added.

Mominul took the captaincy in a side where some senior players are considered as the pillars of Bangladesh cricket. He got Mushfiqur Rahim, who just one year ago was the Test captain and there is Mahmudullah Riyad who is the captain in T20 format.

The diminutive batsman said senior’s presence around him would make him comfortable rather making him uncomfortable.

He added that the senior like Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim always tries him to motivate him.

”Everyone is supporting me. Both Riyad [Mahmudullah] Bhai and Mushfiq Bhai are helping me, motivating me and guiding me. Everyone is motivated in the team as they are matured players. I think I don’t need to explain too much to players as a captain,” he concluded.
