Bangladesh Sugar Crop Research Institute Bill, 2019 passes in parliament
SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Sugar Crop Research
Institute Bill, 2019 was passed in the Jatiya Sangsad with an objective to
update the act through repealing the previous act.
Agriculture Minister Dr M Abdur Razzaque moved in the House which was
unanimously passed by voice votes with Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah in the
Chair.
Placing the bill, the Agriculture Minister said the proposed bill will
repeal the previous act which was amended in 2002.
Earlier, Bangladesh Sugarcane Research Institute Act, 1996 was enacted for
establishing the institute and then the Bangladesh Sugarcane Research
Institute (amendment ) Act 2002 was enacted through amendment to the previous
act.
On September 16, 2015, the government has changed the name of the
institute as Bangladesh Sugar Crop Research Institute, but the title of the
act has not been changed in line with the new name of the institute,
according to the object of the bill.
On September 9, the bill was sent to the parliamentary standing committee
on the Agriculture for further scrutiny.
Jatiya Party lawmakers Kazi Feroz Rashid, Shamim Haider Patwary, Begum
Rowshan Ara Mannan, Pir Fazlur Rahman and BNP lawmakers Harunur Rashid and
Rumeen Farhana discussed on the bill.
