ICRC head meets with Speaker

DHAKA, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS) – Head of Delegation of International Committee
of the Red Cross (ICRC) Pierre Dokhob paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dr.
Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury at her office today.

During the meeting the Speaker said “The Red Cross has long term relation
with Bangladesh and it has been working here since the liberation war. It has
also been involved in disaster management”. She hoped that the organization
will work for the people in disaster management in future, too.

Pierre Dokob said “Bangladesh is now a role model in disaster management.
The participation of grassroots’ people plays an important role in dealing
with natural and man-made disasters”, the release added.

Dokob expressed a desire to organise a workshop on disaster management with
young parliamentarians.

During the meeting, he also discussed with the Speaker about the
‘Wheelchair Basketball Tournament’ which will be held next December in Dhaka
for disabled people, it added.

Speaker praised the Red Cross activities in Bangladesh and welcomed the
proposal for organizing a disaster management workshop with young parliament
members.

Senior officials of the Parliament Secretariat were also present at the
meeting.
