Shakib could be handy for us in this series: Mithun

INDORE, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS)- While Bangladesh is all set to start their
World Test Championship journey with the first Test against India in Indore
from November 14, Shakib Al Hasan has come in every discussion.

The regular Test captain of the side was banned by ICC for two years, with
one year of that suspended, due to his failure to report corrupt approaches.

Bangladesh team though won a T20 match in India, they missed Shakib at
some point of the series and when they are set to play the Test, Shakib’s
absence seemed to be more intolerable for the Tigers.

Playing Test cricket in India is one of the toughest jobs for any team in
the World. And Bangladesh is set to face that test without the service of
their best player. At the same time, they have also missed another
experienced player Tamim Iqbal, who skipped the tour due to be with his
ailing wife who is expecting second child.

As a genuine all-rounder, which is a rare thing in the world cricket now,
Shakib would give Bangladesh an advantage of an extra bowler and batsman. In
absence of Shakib, the Tigers actually have to fill up his place with one
extra batsman and extra bowler. But still the caliber and talent he brings up
remains unmatched.

“Shakib Al Hasan has no replacement actually. Bangladesh doesn’t go in a
position that they can replace Shakib,” said middle order batsman Mohammad
Mithun.

“There is no doubt that we are missing him badly. If he is there, he would
be handy for us. He can plug many loopholes,” he added.

But when Shakib is no longer here, Mithun said, the team doesn’t want to
look back as they emphasize on doing well without Shakib in the series.

“Since he is not here, we are not thinking about him. We have been giving
emphasize on how to do well with our existing players,” he said.
