Project awaiting to build 200 paddy silos to ensure fair price

SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS) – Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today informed the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that a project is waiting for approval to build 200 paddy silos across the country with a capacity of 5,000 metric tonnes aiming at collecting more paddy directly from the farmers.

“Once the silos are built, more paddy will be procured directly from the farmers which will ensure the fair price of the agricultural products,” he said replying to a tabled question made by treasury bench lawmaker Anwar Hossain Khan in the House here.

The minister also said the government has set a target of procuring 6 lakh tonnes of paddy and 3.5 lakh tonnes of rice directly from the farmers in the upcoming Aman season.

The paddy will be procured at the rate of Taka 26 per kilogramme (Kgs) while rice at Taka 36 per kg, Sadhan said, adding that 50,000 tonnes of non-boiled (atap) rice also will be procured at Taka 35 per kg.
