SANGSAD BHABAN, Nov 12, 2019 (BSS) – The government would take legal action against the recruiting agencies and its overseas counterparts if there is any allegation of physical or sexual harrasment takes place with the women workers in abroad particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
“All the recruiting agencies must have to place their overseas counterpart information in details as the government can take legal action against the local recruiting agencies and their counterparts if any physical or sexual harassment take place with the women workers in the KSA,” said Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed in the Jatiya Sangsad while responding to the supplementary questions to the lawmakers in the House here this afternoon.
Responding to a query placed by opposition lawmaker Kazi Feroz Rashid, the Expatriate Welfare Minister said, “It is mandatory that the concerned recruiting agencies must have to place the detailed information of their counterpart information in the KSA, so that we can take legal action against the recruiting agencies and their counterparts.”
In last few months, he said, we have already cancelled three recruiting agencies license and have also been postponed the licenses of 160 recruiting agencies, adding that “we have fined some recruiting agencies for doing irregularities.”
On the claim of women workers repression in Saudi Arabia, the minister said “We will discuss the issue in the joint technical committee meeting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on November 26-27.”
The minister, however, told the parliament that the government has taken a decision to impart at least one-month training to the women workers as they could get rid from the repression in abroad.
Bangladesh so far is sending workers to some 173 countries. A total of 8,42,842 women workers are in abroad including the middle eastern countries.
