Academics for united efforts to combat militancy

RAJSHAHI, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS)- Academics and researchers at a discussion
here today unequivocally called for concerted efforts of all to root out
militancy and terrorism from the society.

They also underlined the need for creating mass-awareness against
communalism and fundamentalism as there is no room for the social crimes in
the society.

They came up with the observation while addressing the lecture titled
“Communalism and Militancy in Bangladesh: Connectivity and Spreading” held at
the seminar room of the Institute of Bangladesh Studies (IBS) in Rajshahi
University (RU).

RU Vice-chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan addressed the lecture as chief guest
while Pro-vice-chancellors Prof Ananda Kumar Shaha and Prof Chowdhury Jakaria
spoke as special guests with IBS Director Prof Zakir Hossain in the chair.

Vice-chancellor of Khulna University Prof Fayek Uzzaman addressed the
discussion as focal person saying that terrorism and militancy has now been
controlled due to strong stance of the government under the dynamic
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina against the crimes.

RU Registrar Prof Abdul Bari, Prof Hassan Azizul Haque and Prof Shoroshish
Sarker also spoke.

Prof Sobhan said the present government has been working relentlessly for
ensuring peace and communal harmony and it has attached top priority to all
sectors adding that a responsive and positive role by all quarters is very
important for maintaining peace and communal harmony.

For the sake of building the nation as a peaceful motherland, all
conscious, patriotic and peace-loving people should come forward and work
together, he added.

The people should take steps to build a national unity to free the nation
from the clutches of conflicts, feud and violence, Prof Sobhan added.
