Iyer impress by Tigers batting skill

NAGPUR, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – India’s young batsman Shreyas Iyer was impressed by the Bangladeshi batsmen’s ability to play sweep and reverse sweep shot with utmost ease and said that they need to learn things from them if they are to be successful on turning wickets.

Mushfiqur Rahim particularly adopted a policy to neutralize Indian spinners’ threat by repeatedly playing sweep and reverse sweep shots in the first game in which he struck an unbeaten 43 ball-60 to help the side win the game by seven wickets.

The likes of Mohammad Mithun, Mohammad Naim Sheikh also played some good sweep shots in the third game to disarray India’s spinners.

“The quality they showed, in batting especially…improvising, playing the reverse sweep and the sweep, manipulating the bowlers…it was really good to see that,” Iyer said after the third T20, which his side won by 30 runs to clinch the series by 2-1.

“There are a lot of things to learn for us. And that’s what we have discussed in our team meetings that we also need to practice sweep shots and reverse sweeps, because it might work for us on turning wickets.”

Iyer who is trying to cement his place in the Indian team was the wrecker-in-chief for Bangladesh in third game, playing an exuberant 33 ball-62 runs knock that included three fours and five sixes.

As Bangladesh sensed a full authority on Indian team, picking the wickets of dangerman Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan to leave them 35-2 in sixth over, Iyer alongside KL Rahul shared a 59-run partnership to take the game away.

Rahul hit 35 ball-52 runs but Iyer who got life before opening his account was marauding indeed.

Iyer said despite losing Rohit Sharma early, they were not in tension that they won’t win the game.

“I always believe that we are going to win, no matter what situation we are put in. The whole team believes that too. Currently, we are setting a benchmark for T20 cricket and it’s really important for us to back ourselves and play in pressure situations like this.

All of us stood up, all of us contributed today, and that’s what good teams do,” he said.

At the same time, he was not surprised the way Bangladesh pushed them and got them into position of winning the game.

“I wasn’t surprised (by Bangladesh’s performance). Over the last two years, they’ve always pushed the Indian team close. They’re a very good team,” he added.
