Tureen removed from ICT

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – The government today removed Barrister
Tureen Afroz from her post of prosecutor of International Crimes Tribunal
(ICT) for violating discipline and professional conduct and committing
serious misconduct.

A Law, Justice and Parliament Affairs Ministry notification signed by
deputy solicitor SM Nahida Nazmin said the order would come into effect from
today (November 11, 2019).

Tureen, who was much appreciated for her legal arguments in couple of
cases against high profile war criminals like Salauddin Quader Chowdhury,
Ghulam Azam and Matiur Rahman Nizami, was withdrawn from all cases and asked
to submit all documents by chief prosecutor’s office in May, 2018, as she
allegedly held secret meeting with a crimes against humanity accused.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Anisul Huq today said Tureen was removed from
her post on basis of evidences found against her.

“She has observed her responsibility with outmost sincerity prior to her
removal. We are not raising questions about those. But don’t know why, she
went to do that (holding meeting). It is not like, we are removing her
happily,” he said at the ministry today.
