Councillor Rajib placed on fresh remand

DHAKA, Nov 11, 2019 (BSS) – A court here today placed ward councillor
Tarekuzzaman Rajib to a four-day fresh remand in an arms case filed with
capital’s Mohammadpur Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Devdas Chandra Adhikari passed the order
as the councillor of ward-33 of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) was
produced before the court and investigation officer (IO) and RAB-2 sub-
inspector Pranay Kumar Pramanik pleaded to place him on a 10-day fresh
remand.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Sayeed on November 4 sent Rajib to
jail after end of his remand in two cases filed against him under arms and
narcotics acts.

Police on that day also filed a report against the councillor, saying he
established a reign of terror in and around Mohammadpur and Adabor areas
through his gang.

Terming him as sultan of crime world in those areas, police said Rajib
amassed a huge wealth through land grabbing and extortion, using his armed
cadres.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yasmin Ara on October 21 placed the
crooked councillor on a seven-day remand in arms and seven-day remand in
narcotics cases.

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rajib from a flat in
Basundhara Residential Area on late October 19. The elite crime busting
agency seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a foreign-made pistol, a
magazine with three bullets, Taka 33 thousand in cash and a passport from
that flat.

RAB on late October 20 handed Rajib over to Bhatara Police Station,
filing two cases against him.
