International Junior Tennis Championship in Rajshahi from Tuesday

RAJSHAHI, Nov 9, 2019 (BSS)- A six-day long 28th International Junior Tennis Championship-2019 (under-18) will begin at Zafar Imam Tennis Complex in Rajshahi from Tuesday (Nov-12).

Around 70 players accompanied by 20 coaches and managers from 12 countries including the host Bangladesh are expected to take part in the tournament at Zafar Imam Tennis Complex here in cooperation with Bangladesh Tennis Federation and International Tennis Federation.

This was revealed in a meet the press ceremony held at the complex conference hall here today. Chairman of the tennis complex Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar Tapu, General Secretary Ehsanul Haque, Tournament Director Muhammad Khoshru and Referee Joy Mukharjee addressed the meet.

The participating countries are: Bangladesh, India, China, Malaysia, South Korea, United States of America, Nepal, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Qatar, Shree Lanka, Great Britain and Australia.

Prof Sabbir Sattar told the journalists that the qualifying round matches will be held on November 10 and 11 while the main draw matches from November 12. He added that top ITF ranking 34 boys and 34 girls players from draw of 48 in boys singles and 48 in girls singles will play in the main draw matches directly.

He also said all sorts of necessary preparations were completed to hold the tournament successfully.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton accompanied by Commissioner of Rajshahi division Humayun Kabir Khandaker, Deputy Inspector General of Police Hafiz Akter, Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Humayun Kabir and Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Hamidul Haque are likely to open the tournament at 3.30 pm on November 11.
