Satkhira people start moving to cyclone shelters

SATKHIRA, Nov 9, 2019 (BSS)- People from the coastal regions started
heading to shelters today as very severe cyclonic storm ‘Bulbul’ continues to
approach Bangladesh.

Met office and district administration sources said Satkhira district and
its offshore islands and chars will come under great danger signal number 10.

In this regard, a meeting was held at the conference room of Deputy
Commissioner on Friday evening with Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Mostofa Kamal
in the chair.

The district administration has prepared 270 shelter centers and 1,252
educational institutions for the people of the district and opened control
rooms. Some people have already taken shelter at these shelter centers,
district administration sources said.

“All types of post-disaster measures have also been taken,” DC Mostofa
Kamal said, adding that medical teams, Red Cross members and volunteers are
on standby to provide necessary services.

Beside, 2,800 packets dry food, cash Taka five lakh 10 thousand, fresh
drinking water, 300 tonnes of rice and medicines are ready to distribute
among the people who would be affected by the cyclone in the district, the
sources said.

Leaves of all government officials of the district have been cancelled,
the Deputy Commissioner added.
