RAJSHAHI, Nov 7, 2019 (BSS) – Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) started
plantation of saplings of 200 rare and indigenous species trees in its
Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Botanical Garden and Zoo in the city.

The city corporation has taken the initiatives to supplement the efforts of
making the city eco-friendly through transplanting saplings of rare and
endangered of species of trees.

City Mayor AHM Kamaruzzaman Liton, accompanied by some of his council
members and office colleagues, inaugurated the transplantation programme here
today.

Speaking on the occasion, he said the city corporation has set a target of
transplanting more than 14,000 saplings of fruit and wood trees and medicinal
plants in the city areas to make Rajshahi city eco-friendly.

Liton urged all authorities of public and private entities including
educational institutions and installations to supplement the city
corporation’s efforts of massive plantation.

Massive tree plantation can help reduce carbon emissions at a substantial
level and that is very important to protect ecological balance in the region.

Liton said people of all levels should take the responsibility of
protecting the city and its adjacent areas from the adverse impacts of
climate change.

He urged concerned officials to increase forest coverage as part of
adaptation measures to face climate change challenges.
