Sports fund set up at DU after journalist Mamun

DHAKA, Nov 7, 2019 (BSS) – A new sports fund was set up today at Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) Department of Dhaka Universality after the name of the department’s former student and late journalist Mamunur Rashid.

Deputy Managing Director of Abul Khair Group Abu Syed Chowdhury Bablu handed over a cheque for Taka 10 lakh to MCJ Department Chairperson Dr Kaberi Gayen at her office at the department.

Earlier, an agreement was signed in this regard.

With the income of the fund, sports equipments will be bought for students of the department every year and other accessories will be done.

Apart from teachers of the department, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Ashraful Alam Khokan, journalist Mamun’s well-wishers Kazi Nasim Al Momin Rupok, Joydeb Nandi, Mostak Ahmed, Rokon Uddin and Najmul Hossain were present on the occasion, among others,.

Dr Kaberi Gayen expressed gratitude to Ashraful Alam Khokan for his role in setting up sports fund.

Born at Lohagora under Narail district, Mamunur Rashid, who was a former student of DU MCJ Department and a journalist of Ekushey Television, died of a cardiac arrest on September 3 in 2018.

During his career, he covered Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). He also worked at Asian TV and Bangla Vision.
