200 students get sanitary towels in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, NOV 07, 2019 (BSS) – Around 200 students of Asaduzzaman Girls’ High School of the town today got sanitary towels from the government at free of cost.

District Administration and district Woman Affairs organized a function held at school hall room this noon under sanitary towel making and distribution programme for adolescent health protection and creating economic power of female.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as chief guest while Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr. ABM Abu Hanif attended as special guest.

With mayor of Gaibandha municipality and also chairperson of the school managing committee Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of the district woman affairs office Nargis Jahan, General Secretary of district Mohila Awami League Mahmuda Parul, female entrepreneur Nazmun Nahar and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.

DC Abdul Matin in his speech said adolescence is a crucial stage of life which is challenging for most girls because of its physical and psychological changes.

The DC also urged the students to use sanitary towel regularly and also asked them to motivate their fellows to use it for building up a healthy nation and help the government achieve sustainable development goals by 2030 as declared by UNDP.

CS Dr. ABM Abu Hanif said one of the major physiological changes in adolescence girls is menstruation and requested the students not to be worried during the period.

He suggested them to be more attentive during the menstruation time and use sanitary towel properly to avoid some diseases.

Later, DC Abdul Matin formally distributed sanitary towels among the students.

DD Nargis Jahan informed that as part of the programme sanitary towels would also be distributed among 600 students of three other high schools of the district very soon.
