Farmers expect good yield of Aman paddy in Manikganj
MANIKGANJ, Nov 7, 2019 (BSS) – Farmers are expecting good production of
Aman paddy thanks to favorable environment alongside availability of agri-
inputs provided by Department of Agricultural Extension(DAE).
Farmers are passing busy time for harvesting of Aman paddy and bumper
production of the staple crop brings smile to growers, the DAE sources said.
The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said the target of
cultivation of T-Aman (transplantation) was fixed on 7,260 hectares of land
in the district with a production target of 20,307 metric tons of rice during
the current year. But a total of 8,266 hectares of land were cultivated in
the district exceeding its fixed target during the current season, the DAE
sources said.
Md. Habibur Rahman Chowdhury, deputy director of DAE, said, “Our field
level officials extended all necessary supports including agri-inputs and
technological methods to the growers.”
Farmers of the district have cultivated high-yielding varieties of rice
including BRI-49, BRI-39, BDI-51, BRI-52 and BINA-7, he added.
Hasan Sheikh, a farmer of village Baliakhora under Baliakhora Union of
Ghior upazila, said he cultivated Aman on five bighas of land and hoped a
good yield of the crop.
