Samir, Kulsum new president, gen secy of Krishak League

DHAKA, Nov 6, 2019 (BSS) – Samir Chanda and Umme Kulsum Smrity have been elected president and general secretary of the Bangladesh Krishak League central executive committee respectively.

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today announced the leadership of the new committee for the next three years at the council session of the Krishak League in Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh auditorium here.

AL Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanok and Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmed Hossain, BM Mozammel Haque and Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap and Deputy Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua were present at the council session, among others.

Earlier, Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 10th national council of the Krishak League, an associate body of the ruling Awami League at Suhrawardy Udyan in the city this morning.

AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader and All India Kisan Sabha general secretary Atul Kumar Anjan addressed the inaugural session of the council as special guests with Krishak League president Motahar Hossain Molla in the chair.

Moderated by Krishak League joint general secretary Samir Chanda, Advocate Shamsul Haque Reza presented an organizational report in the session.

The ninth council of the organisation was held on July 19 in 2012. A 111-member committee was formed through the council making Motahar Hossain Molla president and Shamsul Haque Reza general secretary.

On April 19 in 1972, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded Bangladesh Krishak League to work for the development of agriculture and farmers to attain economic emancipation.

Abdur Rob Serniabat was the founding president of the Krishak League. He was one of the martyrs of the August 15, 1975 carnage.
