Zia banned Joy Bangla slogan: Hanif

KUSHTIA, Nov 5, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League joint general secretary Mahbubul
Alam Hanif today said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman had banned the slogan of
independence, Joy Bangla, after taking over state power.

“Attacks were also carried out on the people who publicised the historic
March 7 speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
during the regime of Ziaur Rahman,” he said while addressing a triennial
council of Bheramara Upazaila Awami League here.

Speaking as the chief guest, Hanif said an evil force, which did not want
development in the country, tried to kill the then Awami League President
Sheikh Hasina by conducting a grenade attack on her in 2004.

About the death of former mayor of undivided Dhaka City Corporation and BNP
vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka, he said Khoka has never been attested,
while he went abroad when he was the city mayor.

And Khoka died while undergoing treatment at a hospital abroad, Hanif
added.

The AL joint general secretary said he pays respect to Khoka, a freedom
fighter.

Chaired Bheramara Upazaila Awami League president Haji Akhteruzzaman Mito,
the conference was addressed, among others, by former state minister for jute
Mirza Azam, AL organising secretary Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, Kushtia Zila
AL president Sadar Uddin Khan.
