China keen to work more in power sector: Envoy

DHAKA, Nov 5, 2019 (BSS) – Terming Bangladesh’s priority as Chinese priority, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming today expressed his country’s keen interest to work more in Bangladesh’s power sector.

“The use of power in Bangladesh is diversified as in Hunan province,” he said while paying a courtesy call on State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid at the latter’s office at Bangladesh Secretariat.

During the meeting, they discussed power import from China, existing projects, Chinese credit, coal mine, nuclear power, grid system, underground wire, underground grid and electricity from waste. The state minister called for steps to avoid delay in financial disbursement over Government to Government (G-To-G) projects.

“China has scope to work in smart grid, modern substation, modern distribution system, underground gas pipeline, underground distribution line sectors in Bangladesh for mutual benefits,” Nasrul added.

Lauding Bangladesh’s development activities, the Chinese ambassador said Bangladesh has made unprecedented development under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
