‘Safe food intake imperative for sound health’

RAJSHAHI, Nov 5, 2019 (BSS)- Health experts at a district-level workshop unanimously mentioned that in-taking of safe food through changing food habits are very important for maintaining sound health coupled with thwarting various non-contagious diseases.

They also viewed that the number of patients suffering from various diseases including heart and cancer is gradually increasing due to in-taking of various unhygienic and unsafe foods. So, there is no way but to generate mass-awareness in this regard.

Civil Surgeon Office organized the workshop titled “Promotion of Healthy Diet Intake for Improve Lifestyle for District Level Officers and Staffs” at its office conference hall in Rajshahi city yesterday. Life Style, Health Education and Promotion and Health Education Bureau under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare jointly supported the programme.

Civil Surgeon Dr Kazi Mijanur Rahman, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Jahangir Alam and Chief Health Officer of Rajshahi City Corporation Dr AFM Anzuman Ara Begum addressed the meeting as resource persons.

The speakers noted that all sorts of unsafe foods like adulterated and contaminated ones are injurious to public health. So, there is no way but to ensure safe and nutritious food for all.

They opined that proper enforcement of Consumers’ Rights Protection Act could be a vital means of protecting the consumers’ rights together with freeing the human body from any food poisoning and other contamination.

The issue of the consumers’ rights is well accepted throughout the world and in the free market economy. So, there is an urgent need of bringing all the businessmen and others concerned under the awareness programme in this regard.

Medical Officer Dr Barnabas Hasdak mentioned that food habits are very important for human life and the food habit must be hygienic and safe. Overeating and over-drinking water is also harmful for human health.

He added that all the growing children must be debarred from in-taking any fast-food and other junk food for their proper physical and mental development through freeing them from all sorts of health risks.

Dr Hasdak categorically said the fast-food and junk foods are posing a serious threat to the present public health as those always trigger risks of various diseases.
