I learnt from my Bangalore mistake: Mushfiqur

NEW DELHI, Nov 4, 2019 (BSS)-After leading the side by playing a sublime 43
ball-60 not out, Mushfiqur Rahim revealed that he was aware of not to do the
mistake that he did in Bangalore three years back.

As Bangladesh sensed a famous victory in Bangalore during the World T20 in
2016, Mushfiqur and Mahmudullah Riyad played glory shots to be dismissed in
consecutive two deliveries when Bangladesh needed just two runs in three
balls to win the game.

After their dismissal in two balls, in a row, Mustafizur Rahman was run out
in the last ball, failing to even make the game tied one. However the entire
blame was on Mushfiqur and Mahmudulllah that as to why they wanted to finish
the game off with boundary when just single could do the tricks.

Both of the batsmen later revealed that the pain wouldn’t be erased until
they win a game against India on Indian soil in their life. And Mushfiqur now
himself led the side’s maiden victory in India to bury the ghost of
Bangalore.

Mushfiqur said he learnt from that mistakes and tried to finish off the
game by playing sensible cricket.

“Men can make mistakes. As long as you’re learning from your mistakes,
that’s the most important part,” Mushfiqur said.

“And after that incident, I was closing the games in T20s and also in ODI.
So that gives me lot of confidence. We knew what we had to do in that
situation rather than (not doing the) things what I did in past. I had chat
before starting the 20th over. We knew and we are clear. And after couple of
years, me and Riyad finishing off the game. It feels really great,” he said.

“It can happen to any player when you play in the same condition in
previous occasions and you have an experience of playing for 10-15 years. I
won matches staying in the wickets previously, so it also gave me lots of
confidence. I had chat to get some twos and singles. There were lots of rooms
on the side. So had a chat and we also learned from our previous mistakes
(Bangalore),” he added.

While Mushfiqur Rahim played the anchor role, the other players, specially
the young players chipped-in-with valuable contribution. Mushfiqur heaped
shower of praise on them.

“It is a great moment for Bangladesh. We didn’t win before against them in
T20 form before. We are missing couple of our key players but the way the
young players stuck together and the way bowlers bowled in this track
specially against India, it’s outstanding. I think it was the score to defend
in this track because it was not easy to bat on specially with the new balls.
And also in the later part because India have some quality spinners. So it’s
not quite easy. But the guys showed their talent,” he said.

He went on saying that “I think we have nothing to lose coming into this
game and also in this whole series. So that’s gives us a great caution and
gives us a freedom to play our potential and fearless cricket.”

He said the partnership between him and Soumya Sarkar who made 39, was
crucial in sealing the deal.

“I think when I and Soumya were there in the middle (of the innings), we
thought if anyone of us could stay till the end if 19th over, then it would
be possible. We just needed just one big over of 16-20. If a set batsman was
there, then it would be possible. So I had about it with Soumya.”
