Dr Yunus secures bail in five cases

DHAKA, Nov 03, 2019 (BSS) – A labour court here today granted bail to
Grameen Communications Chairman and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus in total
five cases filed over sacking of five employees of the company.

Dhaka 3rd Labour Court acting Chairman Zakia Parveen passed the order,
granting Dr Yunus bail on Taka 10 thousand bonds in each of the cases.

Of the five cases, arrest warrant had been issued against the accused in
three cases as he failed to appear before court following it’s summon issued
on July 10. The court also allowed him bail in the other two cases, which
were scheduled to be heard on November 5.

Earlier on October 28, the High Court ordered Dr Muhammad Yunus to
surrender before the lower court concerned by November 7 in those three cases
filed over sacking of three employees of the ICT company which he heads as
its chairman.

The labour court here on October 9 issued warrant to arrest Dr Muhammad
Yunus as he failed to appear for a scheduled hearing over sacking of those
three employees of Grameen Communications.

Dr Yunus was asked to appear along with Grameen Communications’ Managing
Director Naznin Sultana and Deputy General Manager Khandaker Abu Abedin over
sacking of those employees for forming union at their workplace.

Abdus Salam, Shah Alam and Emranul Haque, junior MIS Officers of Grameen
Communications, were sacked in June, 2019, for taking initiative and forming
trade union at their workplace.

The company also sacked Hossain Ahmed and Abdul Gofur for the same reason,
making the duo to take refuge of justice.
