AL pays homage to Bangabandhu, four national leaders

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League and different social, cultural and political organisations today placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the graves of four national leaders, marking the Jail Killing Day.

In the early hours of November 3 in 1975, the killers of Bangabandhu stormed into Dhaka Central Jail and killed four national leaders – Tajuddin Ahmed, Syed Nazrul Islam, Captain Monsur Ali and AHM Kamruzzaman – who led the Liberation War in absence of Bangabandhu in 1971 and earned independence for the nation.

Awami League (AL) placed wreaths at Bangabandhu’s portrait at Dhanmondi and the graves of three national leaders at Banani graveyard in the city in the morning. Wreath was also placed at AHM Kamaruzzaman’s grave in Rajshahi.

In the morning, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four national leaders, marking the Jail Killing Day.

In memory of the leaders, the premier placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi Road No 32 in the city.

Sheikh Hasina first laid a wreath as the prime minister at the portrait of Bangabandhu around 7 am.

After placing the wreath, she stood in solemn silence there for some time as a mark of profound respect to the memories of the national leaders.

Later, flanked by central leaders of the party, Sheikh Hasina placed another wreath as the president of Awami League (AL) at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

Awami League Advisory Council Members Amir Hossain Amu and Tofail Ahmed, Presidium Members Begum Matia Chowdhury and Mohammad Nasim, General Secretary Obaidul Quader, Joint General Secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Jahangir Kabir Nanak and Abdur Rahman, Publicity and Publication Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud, Organising Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and Enamul Haque Shamim, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Industries and Commerce Affairs Secretary Abdus Sattar, Labour Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Deputy Office Secretary Biplab Barua and other central leaders of the party were present.

Later, the leaders and workers of Awami League’s associate bodies, including Awami Jubo League, Chhatra League, Mohila Awami League, Sramik League, Krishak League, Jubo Mohila League, Swechchasebok League, Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad, Bangabandhu Parishad and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Parishad as well as other socio-cultural organisations paid homage to Bangabandhu and four national leaders by placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.

The AL leaders also placed wreaths at the graves of August 15 martyrs and the national leaders at Banani graveyard and offered fateha. A milad mahfil and special munajat were also held there.

Similar programmes were observed at Kadirganj in Rajshahi where AHM Kamaruzzaman was laid to rest.
