Car-truck collision kills 10 in India

NEW DELHI, June 1, 2018 (BSS/XINHUA) – At least 10 people were killed and
three others injured Friday in collision between goods truck and a car
carrying passengers in western Indian state of Maharashtra, police said.

The accident took place during morning at Arni in Yavatmal district, about
659 km east Mumbai, the capital city of Maharashtra.

“In the wee hours today in collision between goods truck and a car, 10
people were killed and three others injured,” a police official said. “The
accident took place near Kosdani ghat in Arni.”

Following the accident police teams were rushed to the spot to carry out
rescue work.

The injured persons were rushed to a nearby hospital in Yavatmal, where
condition of two of them was stated to be critical.

According to officials, the deceased include four men, four women and two
children.

Preliminary investigations carried by police suggest the victims were
members of Sikh family from Punjab heading towards Nanded in Pune.

Police have registered a case and ordered investigations to ascertain
reasons behind the accident.

Deadly road accidents are common in India often caused due to overloading,
bad condition of roads and reckless driving.

Officials say on an average over 400 deaths take place every day in India
due to road accidents.
