US asst secretary, USAID deputy administrator to visit Rohingya camps

DHAKA, Nov 3, 2019 (BSS) – The USA’s Acting Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells and US Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Administrator Bonnie Glick will visit to Rohingya camps this week to observe the situation of forcibly displaced people from Myanmar.

Wells will visit here from November 5 to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues, including the Rohingya crisis.

In Dhaka, she will meet with senior Bangladesh government officials and civil society leaders, a release, issued by the USA Embassy here said today.

In Cox’s Bazar, Wells will also meet with Bangladesh officials and representatives from international and non-governmental organizations to discuss US humanitarian assistance and observe conditions of Rohingyas and host communities.

The assistant secretary will arrive here after attending the East Asia Summit and Indo-Pacific Business Forum in Thailand.

The USAID Deputy Administrator who is on a four-nation – Vietnam, Thailand, Bangladesh, and Indonesia – tour will arrive in Dhaka on November 4 tomorrow.

In Bangladesh, Glick will meet with government officials, implementing partners, and the American Chamber of Commerce.

The deputy administrator will then travel to Cox’s Bazar to observe USAID’s development assistance for Bangladesh communities affected by the Rohingya influx as well as humanitarian efforts for the displaced populace, said the release.
