TK 1.79 crore EGPP begins for poor in Dimla
RANGPUR, Nov 03, 2019 (BSS) – The first phase of TK 1.79-crore Employment Generation Project for the Poorest (EGPP) program was launched for 2,246 poor families of Dimla upazila under Nilphamari district today.
Dimla upazila Chairman and freedom fighter Tabibul Islam inaugurated the EGPP program at a function, arranged by Dimla Upazila Project implementation Office on Ramdanga Road at Dimla Sadar union on the Teesta riverside as chief guest.
Presided over by Dimla Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Nazmun Nahar Moon, the function was attended among other by upazila Vice-chairmen Nirendra Nath Roy and Aisha Siddika Asha, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mezbahur Rahman and Sadar union Chairman Abul Kashem .
In her welcome speech, the UNO said each of the beneficiaries will earn wages of TK 200 per day for five days in a week under the program to earn a total of TK 8,000 as wages for their 40-day works in first phase during the 2019-2020 FY.
The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief is implementing the program for assisting the ultra-poor people to lead a better life by earning wages through conducting infrastructural development works.
“The present government is implementing the EGPP to assist the poor under the massive social safety net program (SSNP) twice every year during seasonal lean periods to help them in overcoming the joblessness situation,” she said.
Under the program, the beneficiaries will conduct works like earth-filling, renovation and repairing of bridges, culverts, roads, water-bodies, canals, educational and religious institutions, cleaning of weeds, preparing compost heaps and other activities.
The chief guest said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working sincerely to provide all possible assistance to the unemployed poor people during the seasonal lean periods.
He called upon the beneficiary people to conduct the infrastructural development works to accelerate rural uplift along with reaping the benefits of the EGGP program in overcoming the seasonal joblessness situation to lead normal life.
