Rural people reaping benefits from cooperatives activities

RANGPUR, Nov 02, 2019 (BSS) – Officials at a post-rally discussion today
said rural people have started reaping enormous benefits from cooperative
activities to enhance productivity in every sector to cut poverty and achieve
self-reliance.

They expressed the view at the discussion organised by District
Cooperatives Office at Town Hall auditorium here in observance of the 48th
National Cooperative Day- 2019 with the theme of ‘Philosophy of Bangabandhu,
Development in Cooperatives.’

Earlier, the District Cooperatives Office brought out a huge rally on the
city streets with participation of officials and employees, leaders and
activists of different cooperative organisations, students, youths, civil-
society members and local elite.

Divisional Commissioner Km Tariqul Islam led the rally and addressed the
discussion as the chief guest with Chairman of the Central Cooperatives Bank
Limited, Rangpur Tushar Kanti Mandal in the chair.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud, Deputy
Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Joint Registrar of Divisional Cooperatives
Office Md Ameer Azam addressed the discussion as special guests.

District Cooperative Officer Jahangir Hossain delivered welcome speech
narrating enormous successes already achieved by rural people through
cooperative activities in developing human resources to increase productivity
in last eleven years.

“As a result of strengthening cooperative activities, good governance
has been established in cooperative organisations assisting rural people in
achieving self-reliance through self-employments, cottage enterprises and
industries,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner laid emphasis on increasing disbursement of
cooperative loans among rural poor to enhance productivity for cutting
poverty on way to achieve all targets and goals of the sustainable
development goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Abdul Alim Mahmud called for providing skill enhancement training to
unemployed rural youths through cooperative societies at the grassroots’
levels to assist them in enhancing skills to alleviate poverty through income
generating activities.

The chief guest suggested for brining small and marginal farmers,
entrepreneurs and backward sections under cooperative schemes to change their
fortune for eliminating rural poverty from rural areas to build a developed
Bangladesh by 2041.
