Tipu for investing in leather industry

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today urged entrepreneurs to invest in the country’s leather industry as the market of the sector is expanding day by day across the world.

“The existing environment of the country is investment friendly. The government is giving all facilities to the investors. Leather sector is a potential sector for the investors in the country,” he added.

The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration session of the three-day “7th Leathertech Bangladesh-2019” at the International Convention Centre, Bashundhara (ICCB) in the city, said a press release.

Tipu said the government expects to export US$5 billion in 2021 from the leather sector. “With the continuous growth and encouraged by the support given by the government, the sector is working towards the ambition of $5 billion in exports by the year 2021. We also want private sector to come forward to achieve this goal,” he added.

The commerce minister said our government has taken steps to establish 100 economic zones (EZs) across the country under the instruction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Many investors from home and abroad are coming forward to invest in the EZs,” he added.

ASK Trade and Exhibitions Private Limited is organizing this international tradeshow on machinery, components, chemicals and accessories for leather, footwear and leather goods sectors.

In addition 3rd edition of ‘Bangladesh Leather footwear and Leather goods International Sourcing Show-BLLISS 2019’ being organized by Leather goods and Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Bangladesh (LFMEAB) is being held concurrently.

Over 300 exhibitors from nearly 20 countries are participating in the event.
