National Youth Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – The National Youth Day will be observed
tomorrow through various programmes across the country.

This year’s the theme of the day is “Dakkha Jubo Gorche Desh, Bangabandhur
Bangladesh” (Skilled youths are building the country, Bangabandhu’s
Bangladesh).

On the eve of the day, President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina issued separate messages greeting the country’s youth society and
wished all programmes of the day a success.

In a message, President M Abdul Hamid said “The larger part of the
country’s population is youth aged between 18 and 35. The trend of numerical
abundance of youth will continue till 2043.”

The youths should be built as human beings with moral values and the
expertise of information technologies, education, culture and sports to
utilize the demographic dividend, he added.

The President underscored the need for ensuring inclusive, peaceful,
equitable and impermeable development for the youths to achieve the targets
of transforming the country into a developed one by 2041 and United Nations
(UN) declared Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government is
implementing comprehensive programmes across the country through the
Department of Youth Development under the Ministry of Youth and Sports for
creating opportunities of education, training and employment for the youths
and building leadership quality, patriotism and responsibility by instilling
spirit of the Liberation War among them.

Noting that the National Service programme was launched in 2009-10 for the
youths, the premier said a total of 228,737 youths were given trainings at
128 upazilas under 37 districts across the country while 226,402 of them have
already been employed.

The programme will be implemented at the rest of upazilas in phase, she
added.

Referring to the government’s different programmes being implemented for
the youths across the country, Sheikh Hasina said activities of setting up
Youth Training and Recreation Centre at every upazila are on the progress.

“Our trained up youths are contributing in building “Sonar Bangla” (golden
Bengal) as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
through their meaningful participation in the national development
activities,’ she added.

The premier hoped that the youths would dedicate themselves for the
welfare of the country’s people being imbued with patriotism and ideology of
Bangabandhu.
