Canada keen to develop trade ties with Bangladesh

DHAKA, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – Canada is very much keen to boost its bilateral trade relations with Bangladesh and avail the huge potentials of both countries to expand trade and commercial relations.

This interest was shown today at a meeting between Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi Sirazul Islam and Canadian High Commissioner to Dhaka Benoit Prefontaine at BIDA headquarters in the city, said a press release.

Counsellor (Commercial) of the Canadian High Commission to Dhaka Corinne Petrisor was also present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Benoit Prefontaine lauded and said that the development works going on in Bangladesh is on the right track and the relationship between Canada and Bangladesh has been very good since its independence.

He said the country’s recent business environment and high growth of economy are creating eagerness among the Canadian entrepreneurs to invest in this country.

Terming the Canada as a close friend of Bangladesh, Sirazul Islam said Bangladesh is moving forward for making an environment-friendly developed country.

For attracting more foreign investment, he said, the government is soon going to establish 100 economic zones (EZs) across the country. “The government is ensuring all sorts of facilities, including electricity, water, gas and telecommunication, in the EZs for investors,” he added.
