Role of males stressed for prevention gender-based violence

RANGPUR, Oct 31, 2019 (BSS) – The males should play their vital role in
preventing gender-based violence against women and adolescents for their
normal growth to flourish their talent and leadership for attaining the
sustainable development goals (SDGs).

The observation came at an advocacy dialogue on ‘Responsibility and role
of male in preventing gender-based violence’ held at Sadar upazila parishad
auditorium in the city on Wednesday afternoon.

Non-governmental development organisation BRAC organised the dialogue under
its ‘Gender Justice and Diversity Program’ with assistance of Sadar upazila
administration.

The upazila level government and NGO officials, public representatives,
teachers, religious leaders, civil society members, professionals and
journalists participated in the event.

Sadar upazila Chairman Nasima Zaman Boby attended the dialogue as the
chief guest with Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ishraat Sadiya Sumi in the
char.

Sadar upazila Vice-chairmen Masudur Rahman Milon and Mosammat Kajoli
Begum, Chandanpat union Chairman Amenur Rahman, Saddyapuskorini union
Chairman Masud Rana and Divisional Manager of BRAC Selina Begum also spoke.

Technical Manager of Gender Justice and Diversity Program of BRAC Sohag
Ali discussed the activities being conducted under the program for preventing
gender-based violence against women and adolescents in the society.

Taking part in the open discussion, the participants said the males in the
society should play their due role in conducting motivational activities to
create mass public awareness for preventing gender-based violence.

The chief guest called upon male family members to come forward with a
changed mindset and sincere responsibility to play due role in preventing
gender-based violence and inspiring local people in preventing all sorts of
social crimes.

She put special emphasis on male-female cooperation for working shoulder-
to-shoulder for preventing all sorts of violence, torture and repression
against women and adolescents to end gender discrimination for attaining the
SDGs in building a developed Bangladesh.
