Crash program for online VAT registration in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, Oct 30, 2019 (BSS) – A crash program will be launched soon to
bring all unregistered business establishments under online VAT registration
in Rangpur division under the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate,
Rangpur.

Commissioner of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rangpur
Shawkat Ali Sadi said this at a views-exchange meeting held at Rangpur
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) auditorium here on Tuesday evening as
the chief guest.

The RCCI organised the meeting to resolve problems being faced by traders
of Rangpur districts in the process of implementation of the Value Added Tax
and Supplementary Duty Act, 2012 and Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty
Rules, 2016.

RCCI President Mostafa Sohrab Chowdhury Titu presided over the event
participated by incumbent and former officials and executives of RCCI,
leaders of upazila level trade bodies, businesspersons, industrials and
common traders of the city.

Additional Commissioner of the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate,
Rangpur Md. Abdul Mannan Saker attended the meeting as the special guest.

The chief guest said the honest traders are regularly paying VAT while the
unscrupulous traders evading VAT payment putting businesses of the honest and
businesspersons under risks.

“We will launch a crash program starting next month to bring unregistered
business establishments under online VAT registration in Rangpur division,”
he said adding that initiative will also be taken to expand the periphery of
VAT at district, upazila and grassroots levels.

He said businesspersons are currently enjoying the facilities of online
VAT payment at their own in a hassle-free manner without facing any unwanted
harassment and complexity.

“The Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Rangpur will organise
workshops, meetings, seminars for the honourable VAT payer businesspersons,
entrepreneurs and industrialists to inspire them in paying VAT availing the
online facilities,” he added.

Abdul Mannan Sarker said registered business establishments are enjoying
more facilities in paying VAT which is an indirect tax payment system being
run automatically by VAT paying establishments in paying revenue to the
government.

He called upon businesspersons to spontaneously come forward for paying
VAT in a hassle-free manner availing the online facilities to further
strengthen the national economy to accelerate progress in building a
developed Bangladesh.

The RCCI President called for making new VAT payment system more public-
friendly and improve attitude and quality of services of VAT officials
adopting innovative ways and educating digitised online facilities to satisfy
the VAT payer businesspersons.

“Successful implementation of the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty
Act, 2012 and Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty Rules, 2016 would
definitely increase revenue collection to further accelerate national
development,” he hoped.
