Death references in Nusrat murder case reach HC
DHAKA, Oct 29, 2019 (BSS) – The death references of 16 convicts in
Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case have reached High Court (HC) for approval of
the verdict.
Confirming the matter to BSS, High Court Division special officer
Mohammad Saifur Rahman said Feni Women and Children Repression Prevention
Tribunal stenographer Md Shamsuddin brought the 2,327 page case documents
including 211-page verdict.
Judge Md Mamunur Rashed of Feni Women and Child Repression Prevention
Tribunal on October 24 sentenced all 16 accused to death and fined them Taka
one lakh each in the case lodged over murder of Sonagazi madrasa student
Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
The 16 convicts are- SM Siraj Uddoula, Md Nur Uddin, Md Shahadat Hossain
Shamim, Maksud Alam, Saifur Rahman Md Zubayer, Jabed Hossain, Hafej Abdul
Kader, Md Afsar Uddin, Qamrunnahar Moni, Umme Sultana Popi, Abdur Rahim
Sharif, Iftekhar Uddin Rana, Imran Hossain, Md Shamim, Ruhul Amin and
Mohiuddin Shakil.
Nusrat had accused Soniagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa principal
Siraj Uddoula of harassing her sexually on March 27, while she was exposed to
his extreme vengeance on April 6 when she went to the madrasa to appear in
Alim examination.
A group of masked youths, later found to be the cronies of the disgraced
principal, took Nusrat to the rooftop of the madrasa and set her on fire
after tying her with her scarf.
Nusrat succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on
April 10.
