Uplifts improve academic facilities in Rangpur: experts

RANGPUR, May 31, 2018 (BSS) – Experts have observed that the education sector has witnessed massive uplifts improving infrastructural and academic facilities and quality of education in the district during the past nine years.

Officials said the students are getting improved facilities for academic activities in their educational institutions to become worthy citizens following implementation of the infrastructural and other development activities.

Executive Engineer of the Education Engineering Department Delwar Hossain Majumder said implementation of infrastructural uplifts at Taka 214-crore during the time has improved academic facilities at many secondary and higher secondary level institutions.

“The opportunity for higher education of the students has been expanded following construction of several buildings of Begum Rokeya University at a cost of Taka 78-crore during the period,” he said.

Besides, the EED has constructed four-storey academic buildings of 29 non-government colleges at Taka 65.25-crore, 64 secondary schools at Taka 40.19-crore, 18 madrasas at Taka 11.03-crore in all eight upazilas of the district.

“We have also constructed four-storey academic buildings to turn seven non-government schools into model schools at Taka 7.20-crore and one academic building and two hostels for female students at Carmichael College at Taka 12.30-crore,” Majumder added.

Principal of Lalkuthi Girls’ School and College in the city Abdur Rouf Sarker said the EED has constructed a five-storey academic building with digitised ICT and IT facilities at Taka 3-crore substantially improving education facilities for the students.

District Education Officer Roksana Begum said laptops and multimedia projectors have been distributed to 638 educational institutions, Sheikh Rasel Digital Labs set up in 79 schools and digital labs in 86 other schools in the district.

“Besides, six secondary level schools and four colleges have been nationalised and 12,456 teachers provided with trainings in different categories during the period,” she added.

District Primary Education Officer Md Tauhidul Islam said a total of 172 headmasters, 1,259 assistant teachers and 701 pre-primary teachers have been appointed in the primary schools during the last nine years.

A total of 739 non-government primary schools have been nationalised and 16 new primary schools set up in remote areas during the period in the district.

“Besides, Taka 108-crore were distributed as sub-stipends to students of 1,274 primary schools in addition to distribution of laptops and projectors to 168 schools and setting up of Sheikh Rasel Digital Labs in two primary schools,” Islam added.

A total of 321 primary school buildings have been reconstructed and 253 others renovated and wash blocks set up at 430 primary schools all over the district during the same period, he added.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Rabiul Islam said the massive developments in the education sector have improved academic atmosphere and facilities and quality of education during the last nine years.

“Besides, huge developments are continuing now to improve academic facilities at many other educational institutions in the district,” he added.
