Pediatric eye surgery restored vision of 13 Rohingya, local children

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 28. 2019 (BSS) – Orbis International’s humanitarian response program restored the vision of 13 underprivileged children including nine Rohingyas on October 28, 2019 after the bandage from their eyes were unlatched today.

A two-year old girl named Shahida Begum was among those who underwent surgery.

Necessary medicine was also provided to them by the Chattogram Eye Hospital authority where the operations took place.

The eye operation camp was introduced at the hospital due to scarcity ophthalmologists in and around Rohingya camps.

Dr. Mezbaul Islam, Dr. Nasimul Hasni conducted the cataract operations duly assisted by Project coordinator of KCV Nilufar Yasmeen, Consultant Makbul Hossain and Manager of Cox’s Bazar Baitus Sharaf Hospital Shahid Uddin Mahmud.

The project was implemented with the cooperation of Qatar Fund for Development under its Eye Care in South East Bangladesh pogramme by Orbis International with the supervision of Cox’s Bazar Baitus Sharaf Hospital, the operations took place at Chattogram Eye Hospital.

The project so far examined around 88,000 children both from Rohingya camps and local communities and provided around 1000 spectacles to children.
