DHAKA, Oct 28, 2019 (BSS) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today warned that stern action would be taken against extortionists to stop toll collection on roads and highways aiming to bring discipline in the transport sector.

“If necessary, legal action will be taken against those who collect tolls on the roads and highways,” he told a press briefing at the Secretariat here.

Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, directed all concerned to take steps to bring discipline in the transport sector.

Calling upon all to follow traffic rules, he said everyone should abide by laws.
About the outdated vehicles, the road transport and bridges minister said most of vehicles plying on roads have no fitness and that is why action will be taken against unfit vehicles considering the people’s sufferings.

Replying to a question, he said the image of the government as well as Awami League has increased after the anti-graft drive.

The offenders are now under surveillance of the law enforcing agencies, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the AL general secretary said.

If someone is found guilty, he said, both organisational and administrative actions will be taken against him or her.
