Rangpur, Dhaka keep them aloft in NCL

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2019 (BSS)-Rangpur Division put them in advantageous position by taking a 62 runs lead against Rajshahi while Dhaka made a strong reply to Khulna in two games of the Tier-1 of National Cricket League (NCL) at different venues across the country on Sunday.

Resuming the day on 32-2, Rangpur ended the second day on 263-3 with Nasir Hossain batting on 55 runs at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium, ground-2 in Cox’s Bazar. Dhiman Ghosh was on 14 alongside him as Rangpur would hope for a bigger lead tomorrow.

Rajshahi was bowed out for 201 in its first innings.

Opener Mehedi Maruf paved the platform amid the downfall of their top order as he scored a stubborn 78 off 232 balls. He struck seven fours and two sixes in his knock.

He was ably supported by Naeem Islam who made 54 and shared 127-run with Mehedi for the third wicket stand after Rangpur was reduced to 12-2.

Rangpur then lost some quick wickets before Nasir and Dhiman steadied the ship to keep the side ahead of Rajshahi.

Iftekhar Sajjad took 2-59 for Rajshahi.

Dhaka vs Khulna

Meanwhile at ground-1 of Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium in Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka Division battled neck-to-neck with Khulna.

After Khulna posted 371 in its first innings, Dhaka ended the day two on 206-2, still adrift of 165 runs with eight wickets at hands.

Rony Talukdar and Joyraz Sheikh added 125 runs for the opening stand to lay a solid platform. Joyraz scored 51 and was dismissed as the first batsman. Rony however hammered 73 runs.

After their departure, Saif Hassan and Raqibul Hasan combined for 81-run for an undefeated third wickets stand.

Saif was batting on 41 while Raqibul Hasan was on 38.

Earlier, Khulna resumed the day on 290-6 and added 81 runs to their overnight total to be out for 371. Anamul Haque Bijoy who retired hurt on 112, came to bat on day two and eventually was dismissed on 126.

Sumon Khan and Taibur Rahman claimed three wickets apiece.

On the other hand, day two also of the all of the two games of the Tier-2-Dhaka Metro vs Barishal at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra and Chattogram vs Sylhet at Shaheed Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshah was washed out without a ball being bowled due to relentless rain.
