DHAKA, Oct 27, 2019 (BSS) – The High Court (HC) today issued rule asking
authorities concerned to explain in four weeks as to why it shall not pass
the order to set up breastfeeding corners at all working and public places
across the country.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury
and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman passed the order asking cabinet secretary,
women and children affairs secretary, health secretary, housing and public
works secretary and civil aviation secretary, among others to reply the rule.

The court came up with the order after holding hearing on a writ petition
filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Ishrat Hossain and her nine-month-old
daughter. The baby’s father signed the affidavit for his daughter.

The court also asked the defendants to explain as to why their inaction in
setting up breastfeeding corners in all the working and public places shall
not be declared illegal and why women and children affairs secretary shall
not be given order to prepare a proposal to establish breastfeeding and baby
care corners in those said places.

Barrister Abdul Halim moved the plea before court while deputy attorney
general Saifuddin Khaled stood for the state.
