Entrepreneurs seek heritage museums in divisions

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2019 (BSS) – Entrepreneurs of the handloom and apparel industry have demanded establishing heritage museums at the divisional level to preserve the handloom, apparel, handmade and craft products.

They made the demand at the closing function of four-day ‘Heritage Handloom Festival 2019’ at a hotel in the city on Saturday, said a press release here today.

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun attended the function as the chief guest while Managing Director of SME Foundation Md Shafiqul Islam was in the chair.

Association of Fashion Designers of Bangladesh (AFDB) President Mantasha Ahmed delivered the welcome speech while Industries Secretary Md Abdul Halim, Cultural Affairs Secretary Dr Mohammad Abu Hena Mustafa Kamal and Information Commissioner Suraiya Begum attended the function as special guests.

In his speech, Humayun said due to lack of proper promotion, the country could not take the advantage of huge demand for Bangladeshi handmade and craft products in the international market. For taking the export advantages, he emphasised on arranging permanent exhibition in all Bangladesh embassies across the world.

“We will launch handmade industry corner at different airports in the country. We will also establish a permanent display centre in the capital for exhibiting jamdani, handloom, apparel and craft products,” he added.

Terming different demands of the entrepreneurs, including establishing heritage museums, as logical, he said, the government will take quick measures to implement the demands.
