SC extends stay on Khaleda’s bail in Cumilla cases

DHAKA, May 31, 2018 (BSS) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) today extended till June 24 the stay on BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s bail in two cases filed in Cumilla.

A three-member Appellate Division bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after holding hearing on a plea submitted by the state.

The court also asked the state to file two leave to appeal petitions against the bail order issued by the High Court on May 28.

The High Court in its order had granted six months bail to the BNP chief in two cases filed over killing of eight passengers as petrol bombs were hurled at a bus in Chouddagram Upazila in Cumilla on February 3, 2015.

Appellate Division chamber judge stayed the bail on May 29 allowing state plea and sent the matters to the regular bench for further hearing.
