JS body for continuing river dredging
DHAKA, Oct 24, 2019 (BSS)- The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Shipping today recommended taking steps for continuing river dredging to maintain navigability of the river.
The committee made the recommendation at its 12th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with committee chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair, said a press release.
During the meeting, the committee emphasized the uninterrupted movement of ferries at Mawa Ferry Ghat.
The ministry was advised to monitor the matter whether the ferries are regularly operated or not.
The committee also recommended regular dredging to maintain navigability of the river, said the release.
Besides, the chiefs of the concerned organizations presented the progress of implementation of the decisions taken in the last 10 meetings.
Committee members -Shajahan Khan, Ranjit Kumar Roy, Mahfuzur Rahman, Dr Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, M Aslam Hossen Sawdagar and SM Shahjada, among others, took part at the meeting, added the release.
