JS-LABOUR-WORKER-SAFETY
JS body for ensuring workers’ safety
DHAKA, Oct 24, 2019 (BSS)- The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Labour and Employment today recommended ensuring workers’ safety at workplaces, especially in building and ship-breaking ground.
The parliamentary watchdog made the recommendation at its fifth meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban here with committee chairman Md Mujibul Haque in the chair, said a press release.
The committee had an elaborate discussion regarding safety measures to be taken for the labors and suggested the ministry to abide by the existing Labor Code.
The JS body also suggested increasing the manpower in the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments and Labor Department under the Labor ministry, by recruiting new employees.
Committee members State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian, Shajahan Khan, Md Israfil Alam, Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and Shamsun Nahar participated in the meeting.
Secretary of the labour and employment ministry, senior officials of the ministry and JS secretariat were, among others, present at the meeting.
