Int’l Freshwater Dolphin Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 23, 2019 (BSS) – The International Freshwater Dolphin Day will be observed tomorrow in the country like elsewhere in the world aiming to create awareness among people about the importance of the endangered aquatic species.

In collaboration with the Forest Department, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and IUCN Bangladesh, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has taken a three-day programme to observe the day.

The inaugural session of the progarmme will be held at the Liberation War Museum in the capital at 10 am tomorrow.

Deputy Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Habibun Nahar will be present at the inaugural function as the chief guest.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, additional secretaries of the ministry Dr Md Billal Hossain and Dr SM Munjurul Hannan Khan, UNDP deputy resident representative Van Nguyen and IUCN country representative Raquibul Amin will also be present on the occasion with chief conservator of forest Mohammed Shafiul Alam Chowdhury in the chair.

IUCN programme coordinator ABM Sarwar Alam said the inaugural session of the programme will lead to a three-day celebration at the venue with colourful events like puppet shows, art installations, kite flying, painting, photo exhibitions and seminars.
