BCB chief’s response to player’s demand

DHAKA, Oct 22, 2019 (BSS)-In response to the 11-point demand of the cricketers Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon said today that the board has already fulfilled most of the demands raised by the players while the rest will be met soon.

He responded point-by-point to all 11-point demands raised by the players.

Players’ demand: Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) president and secretary has to step down. The players will choose who will become CWAB president, secretary through election.

Papon’s response: The board actually doesn’t recognize CWAB but by the insistence of the players, the board last year recognized its existence. And it should be remembered players’ salary actually was increased at the insistence of CWAB. If the players now want to select CWAB president, secretary on their own, we have no problems.

Players’ demand: The Dhaka Premier League players’ transfer has to be in traditional way and players should have the right to choose the clubs.

Papon’s response: Just a month ago, I told CCDM chairman to reinstate the traditional system of players’ transfer in Dhaka Premier League and it is due to be implemented next season. The players know it well. The players-by-choice system was adopted to quell the discrimination because in the traditional players’ transfer, only some big players gain financially but most of the players lose. Since the players want old system, we have no objection.

Players’ demand: After this year, the BPL should be held in traditional way and there should be no disparity between salary of local players and international players. The players must be able to decide in which grade they are.

Papon’s response: You all know the BPL will be held without any franchise just this year. Next year it will be held the way it was previously held. It was made clear early so why this demand. And for salary, it is completely up to the franchises. The players know well that the BCB has nothing to do with it.

Players’ demand: The match fee of the first-class cricketers should be 1 lakh Taka. Our salaries must be increased by 50 percent.

Papon’s response: The match fee of first-class cricketers were increased every year, despite no significant improvement in their performance. In case of national players’ salary, it was increased to 4 lakh BDT per month from 2.50 lakh BDT. 15 national cricketers got bonus worth BDT 15 crore. Did they reveal this matter to you? The general people could never imagine how much they earn from the BCB every year.

Players demand: Facilities like gym, indoor and ground must improve. Coach, physios and trainers must be appointed throughout the 12 months of the year. The daily allowance of 1500 Taka, allocated for players by the BCB is not adequate and the amount must be considered so that the players can meet the demands of fitness level that was required by the BCB. The plane fares of the players must be ensured by the BCB when the players travel for games.

Papon’s response: The daily allowance was earlier BDT 1000 and we increased it to BDT 1500. Gradually it will be increased further. Every district has got its coach and other facilities. I don’t think the players who raised the demands actually know this. Work is in progress to set up academies in every district. We are trying to increase the number of grounds and all these are in progress.

Players demand: The number of players who are handed national team central contracts must increase.

Papon’s response: We have more central contracted players than other countries. Some countries even have just 12 contracted players. It is up to the player’s performance to get them into the central contract.

Players’ demand: Salary of groundsmen, local coaches, umpires and local staff must increase.

Papon’s response: They probably don’t know just one year ago, salary of the local staff has been increased.

Players’ demand: We play two domestic leagues with four-day matches, namely the BCL and NCL. Premier League is the only one-day format. There must be another one-day format introduced. There should also be another T20 tournament before the BPL.

Papon’s response: Yes we’ll introduce some more tournaments. Tell them to play, tell them to manage time from tight international schedules to take part in it.

Players demand: There must be a fixed calendar before the start of the domestic league.

Papon’s response: It is always there.

Players demand: The salaries of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) must be paid on time.

Papon’s response: The BCB has taken the responsibility to pay the salaries of the players if the clubs failed to give it. And BCB has already paid them. But the BCB first tries to persuade the clubs to pay it on time. If BCB first pays the players, the clubs will take advantage and won’t give the money.

Players demand: The rule that a player cannot play more than two franchise-based tournaments in a year must stop.

Papon’s response: Who will take the responsibility for injury and what is shocking that this demand came from a player who never played in any overseas tournament.
