Bourses edge down further

DHAKA, Oct 22, 2019 (BSS) – Country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange
(DSE) ended today’s session with a further dip maintaining the sluggish trend
of previous day.

Apart from telecom and jute, almost all the sectors, especially the large-
cap sectors, registered notable sale that contributed to the further fall in
indices.

The broad index, DSEX closed at 4708.68 points on Tuesday with a loss of
52.74 points or 1.10 percent.

Besides, the two selective indices, DSE30 also went down by 14.60 points
while the Shariah index, DSES declined by 8.56 points to stand at 1660.88
points and 1080.96 points respectively.

The total turnover dropped below Taka 2.9 billion as the investors
refrained themselves from putting fresh fund into the ongoing bearish trend
of the market.

On the DSE trading floor, a total number of 96,565 trades were executed in
today’s trading session with a trading volume of 97.26 million securities.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers as out of 352 issues traded, 30
securities gained price while 292 declined and 30 remained unchanged.

Most of the sectors witnessed correction today. Among the major sectors
based on the market capitalization -textile (-3.8%), engineering (-3.1%),
financial institutions (-3.0%), bank (-1.0%), and food (-2.4%) sectors
witnessed price correction while telecom (1.8%) and jute (4.1%) sectors
achieved price appreciation in the day’s session, according to a market
operator, International Leasing Securities.

It added the investors’ activity was mostly centered on pharma (15.1%),
engineering (15.0%) and general insurance (12.9%) sectors.

National Tubes (5.1%), United Power (3.3%) and Renata (2.9%) led the scrip-
wise turnover board today.

The top 10 gainers were Golden Harvest, FBFIF, Matin Spinning, EBL NRB
Mutual Fund, Grameenphone, Shahajibazar Power, Uttara Finance, Padma Oil,
People Insurance and Dragon Sweater.

National Tubes topped the turnover chart followed by United Power, Monno
Stafflers, Silco Pharma, Eastern Insurance, Renata, Grameenphone, Standard
Ceramics, Square Pharma and BSC.

The top 10 losers were Anlima Yarn, National Tubes, Mithun Knitting, Safko
Spinning, Sonargaon Textile, Zealbangla Sugar Mills, Hakkani Pulp, BD
Welding, ACI Formulation and Dragon Sweater.

On the other hand, the port city bourse, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE)
also registered downbeat maintaining the sluggish trend of previous day.

Both CSCX and CASPI dropped by 97.05 points and 162.13 points to stand at
8708.31 points and 14320.51 points respectively.

At CSE, a total of 5,755,871 shares and mutual fund of 240 companies were
traded, of which 26 issues advanced while 193 declined and 21 issues remained
unchanged.
