DHAKA, Oct 22, 2019 (BSS) – Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque today said nursing and midwifery training should be conducted only under the health ministry to avoid any kind of misunderstanding and inequalities.

“We have some inter-ministerial problems. We conducted some training programmes for nurses and midwives and the education ministry also runs some programmes. It is better if the health ministry runs all the training programmes for them. We have talked to the education ministry and the problem will be solved soon,” he said.

The minister was speaking to journalists after inaugurating a modern cardiac Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Operation Theatre (OT) complex at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) in the city.

He said, “The process of expanding the facilities of the hospital is underway. The existing equipment of the hospital has been upgraded, so people will get better services from the hospital.”

Referring to the increase of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), the minister said, “People should change their unhealthy lifestyle and food habit to control and prevent NCDs.”

“We are working to ensure proper health facilities for the people at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently received the prestigious ‘Vaccine Hero’ award in recognition of Bangladesh’s outstanding success in vaccination to immunize children.
