People aren’t responding to Oikya Front’s call: Hasan

DHAKA, Oct 20, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today welcomed Oikya Front’s meetings and rallies on different issues, but said the countrymen are not responding to their calls.

“The Oikya Front is trying to be vibrant in the field of politics. But they are not finding any issue to wage a movement,” he told reporters after inaugurating a day-long workshop at Tathya Bhaban in the capital.

Mass Communication Department (MCD) organized the workshop for district information officers aimed at innovating ideas and reaching public services to people’s doorsteps under the annual innovation work plan.

State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan and Information Secretary Abdul Malek addressed the inaugural session as special guests while MCD Director General Md Jakir Hossain was in the chair.

Hasan, also publicity and publication secretary of Awami League, said, “We want strong opposition parties for strengthening democracy. We want that the opposition parties would criticize our works in parliament and on the streets as well.”

The minister said the Oikya Front is holding different rallies. “But they are not finding any issue to wage a movement. For this, they are trying to make an issue over trifle matters,” he added.

Responding to a question, the minister said the countrymen have given mandate to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to run the state for three consecutive times. “But, BNP is talking that the government has no ethical right to run the state. This is not new. We are also hearing such talks over the last 11 years,” he added.

About the recent drive against casino, Dr Hasan said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken steps to remove all irregularities and corruption from the state and actions would be taken against all corrupters in phases.

Addressing the inaugural session, the minister urged all not to become self-centered, saying a developed nation emerges through the development of a sense of patriotism and values among the people, besides the flourishing of their underlying talent.

“Bangladesh is on the highway of development . . . For this, we are making infrastructural development across the country. But we also want a developed nation where patriotism and values will persist,” he said.

“People now-a-days are confined to the thinking about themselves only and for this, the social problems are increasing day by day. But, we don’t want such a society”, he added.

Hasan urged the information officers to make a new and dynamic work plan so that the services could reach the doorsteps of the people. He also urged the officials to highlight the development projects of the government.

In his speech, State Minister for Information Dr Murad Hasan said Bangladesh would turn into a developed country by 2041 under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. She has made an outstanding advancement that is evident in every sector, he added.
