Anti-militancy ‘Dhaka Peace Talk’ launched

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2019 (BSS) – An awareness raising programme titled ‘Dhaka Peace Talk’ was

launched here today aimed at eradicating extremism and militancy from the country.

In association with the DMP’s Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, the

Center for Social Advocacy and Research Foundation (CSARF) is organizing the talk with the

financial assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and Chief of Counter Terrorism and

Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit Monirul Islam addressed the inaugural function of the ‘Dhaka

peace talk’ and a press conference as the chief guest at the DMP Media Center in the city’s

Minto road area in this regard.

Under the programme, a total of 12 roundtable meetings will be held on 12 topics while 25

people from different professions and classes will join each meeting.

Addressing the function, Monirul said, “Terrorism is a global problem. Although Bangladesh is

a non-communal country, it has been put on the risk of terrorism in different times”.

He put emphasis on combined efforts of family and civil society members along with the police

to uproot the extremism from the country.

Monirul said if the ‘Dhaka Peace Talk’ becomes successful in the city, such talks will be

launched in other places in the country.

CSARF Chief and Associate Professor of Dhaka University (DU) Mass Communication and

Journalism Department Shabnam Azim, a USAID representative and dignitaries were present at the

press conference.
