Sheikh Russel’s 56th birthday observed in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI, Oct 18, 2019 (BSS) – The 56th birthday of Sheikh Russel, the
youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was
observed today in the city as elsewhere of the country with joy and fanfare.

Sheikh Russel was born on October 18 in 1964 at the historic Bangabandhu
Bhaban at Dhanmondi.

He was assassinated along with most of his family members including his
father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.

To mark the day, Sheikh Russell Training and Rehabilitation Center of the
Department of Social Services (DSS) cut a cake and organized a discussion
meeting and prize distribution ceremony on its premises.

Quran khawni, milad and doa mahfil was also held there.

Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and vice-
president of Bangladesh Awami League city unit Shaheen Akter Rainy addressed
the meeting as chief and special guests respectively.

Chaired by Paba Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahadat Hossain, the meeting was
addressed, among others, by DSS Divisional Director AKM Sarwar Jahan, its
Deputy Director Hasina Momtaj and RCC Ward Councilors Anwar Hossain, Belal
Ahmmed and Towhidul Haque.

In his remarks, Mayor Liton said Sheikh Russel was brutally killed along
with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, when he was a student of class four.

Different other socio-cultural organisations including the associate
bodies of Awami League also observed the birthday of Sheikh Russel in the
city in befitting manner.

Rajshahi University authorities have also observed the birthday of Sheikh
Russel on its campus. Vice Chancellor Prof Abdus Sobhan and Pro-vice-
chancellor Prof Chowdhury Jakaria were present on the occasion.
