BUET students vow to resist terrorism on campus

DHAKA, Oct 16, 2019 (BSS) – Students of Bangladesh University of
Engineering and Technology (BUET) have taken a mass-oath today against all
kinds of violence, terrorism and communalism from the campus.

Hundreds of students along with BUET Vice-chancellor Professor Saiful
Islam, provosts of the residential halls took part in the oath-taking
ceremony at BUET auditorium. Rafia Rezawana, a mechanical engineering
department student read out the oath.

“We will raise our voices against any wrong doing, unjust and
discrimination on the campus,” they said.

The oath-taking programme came following days of protest by students of
BUET demanding justice for their fellow Abrar Fahad, who was brutally beaten
to death inside the Sher-e-Bangla hall of the university in the early hours
of October 7.

Before taking oath, the teachers and students observed a one-minute silence
remembering Abrar Fahad.

The agitating students of BUET who were demanding justice for the killing
of BUET student Abrar Fahad, yesterday postponed their protests observing
administration’s positive attitude about meeting their demands.

However, the students refused to attend any academic activities till the
suspects of Abrar Fahad’s murder are permanently expelled from the
university.
